Confessions of an Autistic ADOX-Drinker is a collection of photographs and essays.
Written between October 17th 2024 and February 6th 2025, the texts investigate questions regarding my studies, especially in regards to photography and Autism. Following the goal of making the text approachable, academic forms of writing were disregarded to a certain extend, instead settling for a more colloquial style. Referencing ergodic literature, chapters showcase an array of extensive footnotes which are used to either comment upon the text or give context in definitions.
Spanning 28 chapters and 70.056 words, the book’s dissertation length spans topics such as photographic, critical political and sociological theory as well as discussions around photographic work from a disbaled perspective, beginning with a questionnair and ending with a polemic. An extensive bibliography gives sources for the text as well as a long list of suggested research material. The manuscript makes use of the first draft, leaving in errors in layout, typos and missing words.
Parallel to writing, a photo series titled Where is the Autism? was produced for the course The Anonymous Photographers Society at the Bauhaus University Weimar, elements of which were implemented as illustrations the book. The series points out moments, behaviours and objects in my life inside and outside of university which can be connected to the diagnostic criteria for Autism Spectrum Disorder according to the ICD-11 as well as my Autistic experience in general. A collection of homeworks from the Julia Albrecht’s course preceding the series are attached to the book in form of an inlay.
