Jacob Heine (*2001) is a German photographer and designer. Holding a
Bachelor of Arts in Visual Communication from the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar (BUW),
he currently studies photography in the diploma class of Heidi Specker at the
Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig. Heine’s work bridges photography,
book design, and theory, regularly presented in the form of self-produced
publications. Photographically interested in atmospheres of artificial light
and sculptural qualities, his work textually concerns itself with the topics of
autism, mental health, grief, and their connections to photography as well
as philosophy, sociology, linguistics, psychology, and politics. ■
Heine has been exhibited in Germany and Japan, lastly being shortlisted
for the Stiftung Buchkunst’s Sponsorship Prize for Young Book Design. Heine was
a student assistant and workshop lecturer at the BUW, currently teaching there as a visiting lecturer. From 2025 to 2026, he was
a recipient of the German National Scholarship Program.

■ Mim is the 24th letter of the Arabic alphabet. Mim is short for Al Majnoun. Al Majnoun translates to “the lunatic” (from “Majnoun & Layla” fame). ■ Al-Majnoun books is a publishing project by Jacob Heine, ranging between zines, photo- and artist books. Most of these projects are produced entirely by Heine, including their photography, design, frequently being made in small hand-made editions. Al-Majnoun Books was launched in 2025 in order to denote independent projects by Heine parallel to his studies in Weimar and Leipzig. Publications made under this name vary in length, format, language, focussing on topics such as politicis, theory, and autism.
